Δυστυχώς, η Premiere Series προβολή του "Paprika" πήρε 4 μήνες μετά τον χαρακτήρα memorial tribute για τον Satoshi Kon :-(

Μόλις έμάθα από το io9.com [via Tasos Hatziefremidis] οτι απεβίωσε χθες σε ηλικία μόλις 47 ετών (χτυπημένος από τον καρκίνο, σύμφωνα με το anigamers.com) ο σπουδαίος αυτός σκηνοθέτης, δημιουργός πρωτοποριακών anime ταινιών, όπως το "Perfect Blue" και το "Paprika", και τηλεοπτικών σειρών όπως το "Paranoia Agent". Περισσότερα για το έργο του δεν έχει κανενα νόημα να γράψω εγω, το αφήνω στους ειδικούς του Anime News Network.

Ο Kon είχε στα σκαριά νέα ταινία για φέτος, το "The Dreaming Machine" [περισσότερα από το gaijinpot.com]. Και μου φαίνεται οτι είναι αυτή ακριβώς η ενασχόληση του με την διαπλοκή ονειρικού-πραγματικού κόσμου που θα έκανε (θα κάνει?) πολύ σύντομα το όνομα του ακόμα πιο γνωστό σε ευρύτερες [και σε πιο... mainstream ;-D] μάζες, στην Αμερική ας πούμε. Λόγω του ("in development" για το 2013) live action remake του "Paprika" από τον Wolfgang Petersen [περισσότερα από το Quiet Earth]. Αλλά, κυρίως λόγω της τεράστιας επιτυχίας του "Inception" και της "διαφαινόμενης" [το βάζω σε εισαγωγικά γιατί δεν έχω δει ακόμη την ταινία του Nolan] σεναριακής του σχέσης (ή κοινής αφετηρίας αν θες :-) με το "Paprika", για την οποία μιλάνε εδώ και μήνες όλοι οι anime fans, διεθνώς και εγχωρίως [μην πω και AuebFilmClub-ικώς ;-D]. Κυκλοφορούν και μερικά mash-up trailers, τα δύο παρακάτω είναι νομίζω τα καλύτερα.
Κρίμα...

Συνέχεια στις Premiere Series (τις προβολές σπουδαίων ταινιών οι οποίες παραγκωνίσθηκαν για διάφορους λόγους από την εγχώρια διανομή και δεν προβλήθηκαν ποτέ στις ελληνικές κινημ/φικές αίθουσες) με μια από τις σημαντικότερες ταινίες anime, του πλέον παραγνωρισμένου από την ελληνική διανομή κινημ/φικού είδους [μόνο Miyazaki έχουμε καταφέρει να δούμε εδώ. Πάλι καλά!??? :-S].


Η καλύτερη (ίσως!) ταινία του Satoshi Kon, από το επίσημο διαγωνιστικό της Βενετίας το 2006 στην μεγάλη οθόνη της ΑΣΟΕΕ! Περισσότερα από την κριτική του jmaruyama στο IMDb:

" There have been other movies which explored the subject of dreams to varying degrees...Akira Kurosawa's "Yume" (Dreams),"Dreamscape", "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Wizard of OZ" come to mind, but none have quite did it in such a surreal, fascinating and inventive way as Satoshi Kon's recent anime feature "Paprika".

Based on Yasutaka Tsutsui's 1993 novel, "Paprika" is part mystery/detective story and part "Alice In Wonderland" with a bit of a sci-fi element thrown in for good measure.

Kon continues his exploration of the themes of reality vs. fantasy that were covered in his previous works "Sennen No Jyoyu/Millennium Actress" and "Perfect Blue" but also adds the element of "fusion" or the merging of reality with fantasy. This opens up the opportunity for Kon to create truly bizarre scenes where the dream world invades the real world (people morphing into cell phones and other objects, inanimate objects taking on human human characteristics, etc.)


The true draw for this film is the fantastic and wondrous imagery complements of the Madhouse Animation Studio and character designer Ando Masashi who create elaborately detailed images, drawing from a variety of sources (traditional Japanese dolls, Buddhist statutes, European ceramic figurines, plastic toys).

It's amazing how Kon was able to incorporate and explore a lot of the common dream themes in the film (flying, falling, childhood toys, mirrored reflections, metamorphosis, running) as well as some of the Jungian archetypes (shadow, Anima, Animus). The medium of animation is the perfect vehicle suited to bring this imagery to film.

Hirasawa Susumu's musical score adds to the fantasy with its fusion of various musical styles and influences.

"Paprika" further solidifies Kon's growing reputation as a truly innovative animation director in the same vain as Miyazaki Hayao, John Lasseter and Oshii Mamoru. "
